The Weight Room

T.A. offers a Weight and Power training class for young kids who desire to improve on their overall fitness or sports performance. Some just take the class to improve their overall mental health. Next year TA will hopefully have a new weight room!

The average person’s body does not stop developing until they are in their mid-twenties.
So when it comes to working out, is it safe for younger kids and teens?
Kids as young as 7 or 8 years old can safely do strength training if the have good balance and control of their bodies

Always stretch and warm up before you start lifting.

Kids should start with body weight exercises and work on technique without using weights

Kids should not use equipment designed for adults… sometimes cycling is better than running

Kids should get at least an hour a day of moderate to vigorous physical activity.
Vlad St. Leach enjoys a break from academics to hit the weight room Gold 2.
Vlad is a Sophomore here at Thornton Academy and this is his second taking the power weight and training class.
“I enjoy taking the class mainly because I am working on the aspects of my body and I keep myself in the shape for sports and to maintain good balance.”
Please remember that it is very  important to stay very hydrated.
