Today Thornton Academy opens its student art show.

“This is our largest exhibit of the year, with about 270 works being submitted and 150 artworks chosen for this show. This is a juried exhibit, which means the art educators gather and view, discuss, assess the artworks submitted for their composition, use of media, concept, subject matter, and craftsmanship. We spent several hours deliberating and selected what we believe are exemplary artworks from each of the studio classes that we offer at Thornton.” – Jodi Thomas, Art Educator

Aine Mahony, a sophomore with a piece in the art show, explains that to her, “It’s a really big deal because you can leave a piece of you behind physically and it is a physical representation of emotion. It’s really cool to be able to share that with people.” Her piece in the show is a photograph of a polaroid replacing part of the scene.

The reception is Today, May 11 from 4 to 6:30pm.
