A Memorable Spring Sports Season

This spring has held some very memorable moments for the Thornton Academy sports teams. Success has already come from the girls track and field team and the boys tennis team. The girls track and field became the state champions and the boys tennis team became Western Maine Class A runner ups. Everyone is still waiting on the edge of their seats to see how the boys lacrosse team and the girls softball team while competing to be Western Maine Class A champions. A few of the athletes on those teams had a few words to say.

“I would have to say my most memorable moment for this spring season, was the last regular season game against Biddeford. I say this because we were in the bottom of the 7th, (a tie game) with Brooke Cross at second, two outs and Kaylee Burns at the plate. As a team we rallied behind Kaylee, and with two strikes on her she hit a line drive to knock in Brooke, winning us the game and grabbing second place on the leaderboard. It was an amazing thing seeing all 14 girls achieving one job,” said Shelby Ross, a member of the Varsity Softball team.

“This outdoor track season has been amazing! We started the season strong motivated by the warm and sunny weather due to the fact that indoor has been freezing and this motivation started growing and growing till we reached Southwesterns and states where we got first place and I think the most memorable moment of the season was when we won states! Right after the victory we all got on the bus full of euphoria and were escorted by the fireman through all the city on our way back to TA I think that was my favorite part because we realized all the training has paid off and all of the team was more united than ever!” said Claudia Sanchez Beato Johnson, a junior on the Girls Track and Field team.

“A big highlight of this season was beating our rivals from last year, Deering, 3-2. It really showed that everyone had improved from last year, and with hard work and dedication you can accomplish your goals. It has been a great season this year, the best tennis season in TA history by far. Many records were broken, and by the end we all shared a very special bond. A bond that can never be broken,  no matter how much distance separates us. We will continue to strive for greatness, watch out for us next year,” said Jared Waterhouse, a member of the Boys Tennis team.
